Send Tell's buying signals to a Clay table
Clay is great at what happens after you know who to contact: enrichment, routing and outreach. Tell is built for the step before: finding the companies and people with a reason to buy now, and checking each one against what you sell. A webhook connects the two in about five minutes.
What you get
Every signal Tell finds that matches your rule becomes a row in a Clay table, as Tell finds it: the company or person, what happened, why it matters for what you sell, how good a fit it is (0 to 3), the source link, and the people you already found at the company. From there your Clay table enriches, scores and pushes to your sequencer like any other source.
Because Tell already judged each signal, the table only receives the ones worth working, so you don't spend Clay credits enriching noise.
Set it up
You need a Clay plan that includes webhook sources and a Tell account (the trial works).
- In Clay, open the workbook, click + Add, search for Webhooks and choose Monitor webhook. Copy the webhook URL. If you add Clay's optional auth token, copy it too: Clay shows it only once.
- In Tell, go to Integrations → Webhook. Paste the Clay URL. If you set a token, add it under Headers with the header name Clay shows next to the token.
- Choose when to send (a new signal, or only when someone presses Work this), which signals (hiring, competitor customers, LinkedIn, X and Reddit…) and how good they must be. Starting at 2/3 or more keeps the table focused.
- Press Send test. A test row appears in Clay; map the columns you want from it (for example signal.title, signal.subtitle, signal.evidence, signal.value, signal.source_url), then delete the test row.
Two plays that work well
- Hiring signals → enrich the hiring manager → sequence. Send only the hiring signal type at 2/3 or more; in Clay, find the head of the team that's hiring and write the first line from signal.evidence, the sentence Tell quoted from the job post.
- Work this → Clay. Set the rule to send when someone presses Work this in Tell. Your reps decide in Tell (or Slack), and Clay only runs enrichment and outreach on the accounts a person chose.
Limits to know
Clay limits each webhook source to 50,000 submissions, and deleting rows doesn't reset the count; on most plans you create a new webhook when you reach it (Clay docs). A Tell rule sends up to 25 signals per round, best first, and never your backlog, only signals found after the rule was created.
Tell signs every request (X-Tell-Signature). Clay doesn't check it; if you route through your own endpoint first, you can.
